City Lights Marketing is the collaborative effort of three graphic designers. Our collective experience spans over 40 years. I began my own career in New York as an illustrator. After having for Condé Nast magazines, the New York Times, among other publications, I became a graphic designer. I worked on mostly editorial content for print. My partners are more adept at the digital side. When we needed a name for our marketing company, I had been watching “City Lights” on TCM. This silent movie by Charles Chaplin had special meaning for me.
I grew up in a poor country in the Caribbean, where we had no television. To entertain the children of the neighborhood, our neighbor would project silent movies on a wall every Friday night. Most memorable of these was Chaplin’s “City Lights,” which remains to this day an example of creative genius. The movie is an inspiration to the entire staff of City Lights Marketing. It sets the standard for creative achievement. – GD
